I never thought I would be one to be out on the corner shouting about the end of things as we know it, not only because I look terrible in sackcloth, but because nobody really wants to be “that guy”. The one that everybody thinks is nuts, paranoid, and otherwise completely around the bend. But I’m quickly finding out that once you start shouting, it gets easier to just keep on going. And if people are going to think you‘re nuts you might as well make it a doozey. The truth is a bell that can’t be un-rung.
Our society is in a downward spiral and unfortunately the church has been taken down with it. Men and women eager to fight for biblical principles and moral decency have become very few in spite of the overwhelming Christian population of the US. How is that possible? Could it be that too many people have parsed the Word of God to find justification for their own deviant behavior? Has the church helped? Would you know the prompting of the Spirit if it came and slapped you upside your head? These are questions that can only be answered with the Spirit and a look inward. It‘s time to be honest with ourselves and God. We are living in times where right is wrong, black is white, and up is down. We’re in deep trouble.
I read a columnist this past week that compared Barack Obama to a biblical plague sent to a sinful nation. I think that comparison is pretty accurate. In Obama we have our first anti-Israel president. We also have the most anti-Christian president in our history. Regardless of the words that come out of the mouth of this man of shadows, his actions are reprehensible and transparent. The Bible is clear about the fate of those that stand in opposition to the apple of God’s eye, Israel. The United States has been thrown onto a collision course with the full fury of God because of the insolence the US has shown toward its greatest ally.
We are in a time where real choices have to be made about where you stand with God. The US government is taking step after step in contradiction of God’s word. The rubber will be hitting the road soon and you’ll have to decide what you’re going to do. Do you have the faith required to stand for what you believe if what you believe is suddenly against the law? There is very little time left to decide. “Sunday Christianity” isn’t going to cut it. That’s what got us to this point. The church has lost the discernment of the Spirit and this nation has lost the blessing and covering of God. Obama was right. We’re not a Christian nation. We haven’t been a nation under God for quite some time. This is a nation of pretenders that wear Christianity like a fan wears a football jersey on game day.
In the words of the late great Harry Truman, “I don’t give anyone hell. I just tell the truth and it sounds like hell”.
